September - wow, what a month!

Erie Together and its partners are coming off a very big month of September! We were hard at work in the “career pathways” realm, executing three big events to prepare kids for life after high school. Here’s what we accomplished:

  • On September 13, we co-hosted with the Erie Regional Chamber & Growth Partnership an employer panel featuring three local manufacturers. At the event, Erie Together moderated discussion with these employers that highlighted jobs available within their companies, earning potential and opportunities for advancement, and dispelled some common manufacturing myths. • On September 22, in collaboration with Gannon University and U.S. Senator Pat Toomey’s office, we held our seventh annual Youth Civic Engagement Symposium. One hundred fifty students and chaperones from nine schools attended the day-long event featuring public service careers and civic engagement opportunities. Officials from the executive, legislative and judicial branches of federal, state, county, and local governments along with additional community leaders were our presenters for the day. This event was out of the park! Click here to see some photos.

  • On September 28, through Erie Together’s Erie County Career Pathways Alliance, we convened our first “Profile of a Graduate” Community Steering Committee meeting in partnership with the National Center for College & Career Transitions. At the meeting, 40 employers, educators, students, and community leaders came together to collectively identify what they believe to be key attributes for young people’s success after high school. This was the first of several planned community engagement opportunities to develop this invaluable resource. Stay tuned for more info, and click here for some candids from the day.

We are so proud of our community’s ongoing engagement in Erie Together’s work to make the Erie region a community of opportunity where everyone can learn, work, and thrive. Thanks for a great September, and we’re looking forward to the months ahead!
